AkzoNobel Print Effect Films bring surfaces to life with authentic textures, patterns, and sophisticated lighting effects – all delivered through high-performance film technology. From realistic wood grains to technical patterns and backlit graphics, these printed films turn plastic components into premium design features that look and/or feel exceptional.
AkzoNobel develops tailored designs that align with brand identity and product vision in most cases by working closely with design departments directly at the OEM. Whether the goal is to faithfully duplicate real wood components or to create unique patterns that showcase the design freedom of plastics, Print Effect Films provide virtually unlimited creative possibilities.
Engineered primarily for automotive interiors, AkzoNobel Print Effect Films are built to perform over the full lifetime of the vehicle. They are designed to meet demanding requirements for chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, and weathering, ensuring that surfaces remain attractive and durable in daily use. When face-lifts or design updates are required, new patterns can often be introduced using existing tooling, reducing cost and complexity while refreshing the look. For examples see our design page.
Sustainability and practicality are built into the technology. The films are free of solvents and other hazardous components, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional decorative processes. They are available as freefilm or laminated to standard plastics like ABS, PC, as well as PP blends, supporting flexibility in substrate choice. Selective backlighting can be incorporated as an additional design feature, enabling icons, logos, or functional elements to appear only when illuminated, enhancing both aesthetics and user experience.
AkzoNobel Print Effect Films combine design freedom, durable performance, and efficient processing—delivering visually compelling, high-value surfaces that stand out in any interior environment.
